Emma Gorge

Project type

Pastel sketches and excerpts from my memoir

Date

2004

Location

Emma Gorge

From Emma Gorge carpark, we crunched over gravel onto the trail of sand, bush, rocks, and a stream, between tall red sandstone walls. Halfway along, we had a dip in a rock pool, always ready in our bathers just in case. The trail narrowed, then opened out onto a breathtaking sight. A large, still pool, encircled by a towering cliff wall, cloaked in thick green moss, cast a shadow over a glassy pool. Silent glittering gems fell gently from high on the rock wall, mystically showering the still mirror below. We stood spellbound. Laughter broke our trance.
Shoes off, we struggled over slimy rocks and eased into the icy water and swam under the spray. Cold in shadow, we clambered onto sunlit rocks. Voices echoed loud. People came. People went. Shoes off. Shoes on. Hushed tones. Walking. Therapy done.
